News Challenged

My dear husband sensing that I'm a wee bit obsessed challenged me to not watch or listen to the news for an entire week.

An entire week!! (Not a typo).

Normally, when I'm not grounded, I like to watch the news while getting dressed and ready for work. Toggling between channels 5 and 13 provides the visual stimuli needed to start the day.

Then, in an obstacle course worthy of American Gladiators - I flip off the tv and run down the stairs, while I simultaneously grab my purse, pet my cats, and yell at to Connor that I'm out in the car. I feel a little thrill when I finally turn the key in the ignition and I hear the soothing sounds of my beloved news station - KSL 1160.

Lunchtime news gives me an added jolt through my work day and I unwind with KSL again on my drive home.

Is this behavior a little abnormal or do you feel as addicted as I do? With the economy and the presidential elections and the OJ Simpson trial - are you drawn to the radio and the tv like I am?

I'm not sure I'll survive the week - I'll let you know. But looking on the bright side - I did find a music station that plays 80's music during my lunch hour.

Duran Duran just may keep me sane!

I only wish I could have this drive like you do - I think it is so important to be aware of the goings on, but must say I haven't read a newspaper in about four weeks ..... I feel I can be a bit self-absorbed sometimes, and not even just when I have a good excuse like Tumey.

Ha ha ha! Duran Duran! That's so funny! Why? Because that is my strongest memory of you...when I think of Jodi B....I think "Oh yeah...she liked Duran Duran." I don't know why I remember so well but one night, when we were little, Duran Duran was on TV and Trent wanted to call you to make sure you knew. I don't remember if he did or not...just that he wanted to. Awesome! Duran Duran.

After tonight, I might join you and ground myself. Yadda Yadda Yadda.

Love the picture and love Duran Duran. If I remember them right. Did they sing Rio or something like that.

Anyways. You will survive and be less stressed without the news on. But I do get addicted in times like this.

You are sooo funny!! I know you have to go to work and be a mom & wife but I always get such a big smile on my face when I sign into blogland and see you have posted! Please do not delete me--I promise I am not scary! I think you could substitute the word coffe for news and it would be the same story. Lucky you--all that jolt with no caffiene! I should be a better news watcher person--can I jusr rely on you instead? I think your news casts would be way more fun to watch.

I have the opposite problem when it comes to the news...it gives me anxiety...I was a complete mess during the anthrax scare post 9/11. I was terrified to open my mail. Anyway the only news I watch is E!News. LOL!

This is the husband.

Jodi didn't mention that I won tickets and back stage passes to the Two Worlds Two Voices concert with Reba McIntire and Kelly Clarkson because I wasn't listening to negative talk radio. It was funny because when they asked me which radio station was the best I had to frantically recall the radio station on the radio. I almost guessed the wrong station. Perhaps I'll win something again tomorrow.

i try to listen to very little of the news. Bliss is good for me. I stress, panic and freak. Mr. Incredible keeps me abreast of anything major.

Honestly, I scan the headlines online because if I watch the news I tend to fall into depression a bit easier. As for the music I was an original Duranie so I love your choice of music....I recently experienced my dream of going to a Duran Duran concert. It was a blast!!! Albeit from the past!!!

I WISH I HAD AN ALL 80'S STATION TO LISTEN TO! :)

Usually the only news I get is the Yahoo! headlines on my homepage. But I've watched more news this past week than the last two month combined, probably.

While being aware of what's going on around you is fantastic, I think you may be borderline obsessed! =D I'm with scrappy girl - I watch more E! news than real news - and that stuff really doesn't matter!

What station are you listening to? There are times when I'm in the mood for some good 80s music.

Well, if you're addicted so are we. I only listen to NPR (mornings) and conservative radio in the afternoons. I watch less news now though than I used to. Greg is more addicted than me.

I guess it's like anything else- you've got to find a balance between being informed and letting that information occupy too much of your thoughts.

I think the answer to everything is Duran Duran! Maybe they should run for President. m

What? No TV? I would love to turn that box off for a whole week. If it weren't for BYU football and the JAZZ and oh maybe The Biggest Loser. Ya that's about it. Oh maybe The Funniest Home Videos. K. I'm done.

By the way.....I tagged you. Come and see.

Maybe this is all just stagged to get more TV views. There is no real economy crisis, no trial (huhum, OJ), no crazy elections. It's all just a hoax to get us to watch more Tv and they are boosting the add prices way up.

Good for you for keeping up with the news. I can barely keep up with the laundry!

Unfortunately the best I do is check KSL.com on occasion. It is always so negative, it really brings me down. Plus my children always want Wubbzy or GO Eggo(Diego) Go so the news is not usually an option. You will make it through.

Well the darn "follower" glitch anyway. I will check my end here and see if I have done something wrong. Oh and no unfortunately mom could not make it to the party , but maybe next time. "K" and
"Q"'s birthdays are only about 3 weeks apart every year so it was a little crazy.

My hubby is a little addicted right now too. I finally had to tell him to turn it off so we could watch something happier. It stresses me out and always has. I like to be informed, but sometimes I like to be a little lost in own little world.
