It's seriously going to take a village.... (DANGER AHEAD)

This is an irritated, annoyed, and gnashing of the teeth kind of tyrade! I just need to get this out of my system so I can fix the problem. You may want to turn back now.

<--- ME

Anger and rage looms ahead in this blog rant.

Enter at your own risk!

Okay - here goes. But, remember, I warned you...

WHAT IS MY DEAL?! Why can't I just stick to a plan and lose the weight? Seriously, what is so hard about denying myself food and expending a little energy during exercise to get healthy?!

I hear the words that I need to be healthy. I know the importance of putting good food in my mouth. I know how good exercise is for the body. I remember how good it feels.

But why can't I do it?

I'm now having some health issues because of my weight. High cholesterol is already here for me. Diabetes is pointing and laughing at me because it knows it will be next. Now I'm having gallbladder issues.

This was never supposed to be part of the plan for me. I didn't grow up thinking I would one day be overweight.

I signed up 6 months ago to run the half marathon with my brother next month. Am I ready? Of course not! Did I exercise? Nope. At all? Uh uh.

Having a friend drag me to weight watchers worked at first - but lately I've just been paying money to show a weight gain.

Something must be done.

After much soul-searching this week, I've determined that it will take a village to get me healthy!

Today I'm taking drastic measures. And I'm telling my friends in blog-land about it so that I will be accountable for my actions.

Here are my thoughts and I hope you'll share what works or doesn't work for you. I know this affects a lot of us. I'm sure that I can't be alone in my feelings.

But I also know that some of you are doing things right and have made changes in your lifestyles.
These are some things I really really want:

  • I want to lose 50 pounds.
  • I want to run a marathon next year for my 40th birthday (yikes)
  • I want to lower my cholesterol and high blood pressure
  • I want to be peaceful and less harried - more introspective
  • I want to get a good night's sleep and feel energy during the day
  • I want to be loving and forgiving of myself

I'm going to post my weekly progress to my blog each week. I'll post how many times I exercised during the week and if I showed a loss at WW. I'm also going to try to bust through some of my fears.

I truly welcome your feedback. What was it that finally pushed you to make the change? Are you currently struggling with motivation right now as well? What are some of your tricks?

To lose or not to lose.... that is the question. How about a hike to Lake Blanch tomorrow morning? I have to agree that I have empathy. The mornings that I run really feel good and the mornings have been beautiful. I'm serious about Lake Blanch.

Thanks for the shout-out!
And good luck with your weight loss program...I'm proud of you for making it public, and looking for accountability too.

My favorite one of your goals is being loving and forgiving to yourself. That is the best. Hug that inner child of yours and hold on.

A good nights sleep is key. I don't think that the weight can come off if you are not getting the sleep. I also think that three to four hours (or more) should be before midnight. The earlier to bed the better. I really think this helps weight loss.

Here is a web site that has a weight loss program on it, you can find this info at; flagtotalhealth.com

I have used his program and love it. I am not trying to get you to use it, I am just trying to help. I know how hard it is to fight this. I have fought it all my life. I fight it everyday.

Do you love to run? Is that why you put running in your goals. Or is that just and idea? Can you find some exercise that you love to do? Are you social? Do you need to be with others when you exercise? Would joining a class where people expected you to show up help you stay on the plan?

I will stop. I am just trying to help. Let me know if you want to talk. I have lots to say about this one. M

BTW - Mark Twain said, "Whenever I get the urge to exercise, I just sit down until it goes away."

I was doing good until the tumey - well, health problems really. But once we are settled in our house and not in utter kitchen chaos - I am SO getting back on track. Tonight I am feeling a little 'eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we diet' in me, but I am trying to resist. woe is us!

Oh Red, I just can feel the frustration in your heart over this. I totally want to help you feel that you can do this. Absolutely you can count on me.

I have always struggled too. I am constantly struggling. I find that as I just concentrate on it being a lifestyle change, it works better for me. I have some of the same health concerns as you.

Excercise works for me either early or late in the evening. I am not a want to do things in the hot tempature type of girl. So I walk at dusk or dawn. I like the quietness of it.

Whatever you decide on what you want to do, just let us know. We will support you through it all. You have a girl that I know really well on your blogroll. Passionista working off her rear. She is doing great. You could pattern it after her huh. She said it helps her to be accountable.

Good luck Red.

Gosh! I SO feel our pain!!! There are so many people out there that feel the same way that we do.

One thing that works a little bit, is when you are just in a SNACKING mood, go Brush Your Teeth! It will get your mouth busy, give you a taste in your mouth, and sometimes certain foods taste Funky after brushing....so you might not want to eat right away. It works for me sometimes :)

Good Luck!

I have a DIET DIVA blog if you want to join or just to check it out :)

I totally feel your frustration. I just had the same explosion last night. Since January 1 I have lost 30-40 pounds. I say 30 - 40 because lately I have been up and down between there. It is so frustrating. I just can't seem to jump back on the wagon. I want to eat constantly. Argh! I hope you find your way back on track. Posting on your blog about it is a great idea. That way when you do well (or not so well) you have support from your friends. ALOT of us are going through this same thing.

I know you can do it Jodi! If you're willing to put it out there in blogville, you are ready!!!
I've lost 22 lbs since April and have just run my first triathlon.
For me, making a goal to do the tri was my motivation. Also doing it with a friend gave me the accountability to go though with it on days when I wanted to give up.
It took me 3 weeks of run/bike/swimming before I mentally gave in and really started to love it. Those 1st 3 weeks were horrible!
We're all here to motivate you!

Todd is dragging me up to Lake Blanche today. Thank you all so much for putting up with my "fit"! You are all very inspiring to me and I appreciate your support. I'll write more later - if I make it back alive! =)

Okay, now I am feeling very guilty as I sit here at my computer silently munching on my rice krispie treat! Seriously, here is what I think about alot....How come
there is no temptation WHATSOEVER to put an alcoholic drink to my lips or to smoke a cigarette. How come I don't have the same mentality towards chocolate, donuts or ice cream? lol Why don't I tell myself - just don't do it?? So you go girl - I can't wait to hear about your successes!

I know what you are feeling. I am teetering on the same feelings, but of course I have not yet tried to lose any weight. That would be too easy right? However i am just a few short years from the big 40 year mark. Honestly I am gearing up to start my weight loss. I just want to lose enough weight so that when we go for my birthday trip to Australia that I can snorkle on the great barrier reef without looking around for Greenpeace trying to save me!!! Wink WInk!
You can do it!
Keep a positive attitude and remember, it took you your entire life to learn the eating habits you ahve now. It will take time for you to start a whole new eating habit!!!
We are here for you!!

There's no doubt about it-dieting is tough-especially as we get into those "middle years." UG. My husband was recently seriously ill and we have decided together to exercise and transform the way we eat. We are doing it a little at a time-and I'm finding that eating a "plant based" diet-not vegetarianism-but mostly "plant based diet" is really helping a lot. There aren't as many cravings for sugar stuff and I really feel much more "inner peace" inside-it sounds crazy but true! There's a web site called "original fast foods" and I got their book and have been following some of their concepts. I think they are in Utah County. (i don't live in UT) Good luck!

I am very impressed! I KNOW you can do it! I recommend starting with a 5K, then work toward a 10K, to 15K, to a 1/2 marathon and so forth. It is easier to swallow that way. Go for it!

I think we all know where you are and it really helps to have people giving you ideas or suggestions. I have battled with my weight for years and only now do I feel like I finally have a handle on it. I have lost 26.4 pounds in 2.5 months and this was also due to health issues that finally made me change. I have done all the programs, diets, personal trainers etc etc, they all worked for a while, but what I have found has worked this time is: drum roll please...........

I do not eat anything that is processed - all fresh fruits, veggies, and meats, lots of salad and fetta. I do this for all meals and then I give myself Friday nights off - so I can eat whatever I want on Friday nights (or if we are going out on Sat/Sun I will change it to that day. It really helps to know that you dont have to give up everything.

I dont know if this will help, but I will check in on your progress soon. - best of luck and were here pulling for you!!!!

I wish we lived closer together. It seems like we have similar weight loss goals, and are close in age. I need a motivator with similar goals near me. We all feel like our weight struggle is so individual but really there are many who are constantly battling the bulge. Good luck to you. You will do it because you are determined.

Well i know that you can do it. You have accomplished many other things, you can do this too. Yesterday you remained insanely strong and denied the sweets that everyone else infront of you were indulging in. Now that is strength. You can do it! And if you figure out the secret, let me in, I feel like i am constantly running but never losing.
